Williams Locavore potluck series annoucment

Announcing the Williams Watershed Locavore pot-luck series Challenge.
A locavore is someone who eats food grown or produced locally or within a certain area or watershed. The Williams Watershed Locavore Pot Luck Feast will be held 4 times in 2009 Spring, Summer, Winter, and Fall.
The Challenge: Bring a dish that is 100% created from things that lived in our Williams watershed. Bring a printed recipe of your dish for the"Williams Locavore Cook Book" Ribbons will be awarded for:Best Tasting all around, Best tasting Wild Crafted Meat, Best tasting Wild Crafted Vegetarian, more ideas anyone ?
The locavore movement encourages people to eat direct from local farmers, produce their own or forage for food. Local products are fresher, more nutritious and taste better. Locally grown food is an environmentally friendly means of obtaining food that consumes less energy for transportation. This will be a great way to learn what is locally available in Williams each season and how to prepare it. This will also be a good way to promote your Williams farm or ranch.
By sharing information like "burnt Colts Foot makes a salt substitute" We can all learn about and feast on the bounty of our local area. We are sponsoring the first one (renting the grange and bringing the ribbons) So... the first one is March 21 at the Williams Grange doors open At 5 P.M. eat at 6:00 P.M.
Our hope is to get the ball rolling, encourage others to brainstorm on this idea and spread the word. Now, Maya, Myray

  1. Any leeway on fats/oils? If not then, a source on locally produced oil or butter to cook our dishes with? I have some bear fat but its from a bear that lived in Montana.

  2. I'm thinking we should keep it strict on the 100% rule. That way we can learn where the holes are.
Someone must be making butter out here... I hope.
